Use of Android Technology to Improve Mental Health

Abstract

Without a doubt, one of the most widely used and fastest-spreading technologies in the world is the mobile phone. Applications of all kinds (Apps) and their applications in the field of health care are relatively young, but their use is exploding. This study is aimed at analysing different features of mental health-related apps. This study examines multiple dimensions of mental health-related apps available in the Google Play Store for 4 years between 2016 and 2020. We used a set of keywords such as mental health, mental illness, mental disorders, and the cure of mental disorder and the healing of mental illness to search apps available on the play store. We scrapped the data using various software and programming tools. According to our findings, mental health apps primarily address the following symptoms: anxiety, depression, general mental health, stress, post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, panic disorder, sleep disorder, schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, substance abuse (drugs and alcohol), addiction (to technology, etc.), and schizophrenia. On the other hand, Apps offer various approaches for improving mental health. The techniques include meditation, tracking mood, keeping a diary, connecting with mental health resources, stress management, symptom tracking, relaxing audio, relaxation techniques, and relaxation.
