White-box cryptography techniques are for protecting software implementations of cryptographic algorithms against secret-key recovery, which are running under untrusted environments. They are primarily used as cost-effective alternative in the client-side component of DRM-like applications and payment applications especially in mobile phone. In this paper we captured details of white-box cryptography (WBC) and how it evolved as an important component in modern cryptography from a research paper in 2002 by Chow et al. We have also captured details on state-of-art WBC implementation, attacks and community activities around it.
