Abstract

Internet of things (IoT) has become a prominent technology for machine-to-machine and human to machine communication. Internet of things (IoT) is being used in power systems for forming a highspeed smart network among all kinds of sensing equipment for reliable and uninterruptible power supply to the consumers. In the new era of smart grid technology, the interruption of power supply can be reduced by mitigating the chances of faults in power systems. Underground power transmission and distribution system play an important role in supplying power to the areas, which are densely populated, and land price is high. Alike other faults in power systems, underground cables are amenable to various faults due to underground situations and environments, wear and tear as well as rodents. Identification of underground cable fault is tenacious, as the entire line needs to be excavated in order to check the fault at cable line. In our project, we have attempted to develop a prototype to sense the underground cable fault by designing a raspberry pi and Arduino based system which is interfaced with Blynk server for updating the condition and report to the professionals via android cell phone.
