Cloud Computing Technology and its Impacts on Libraries

Abstract

The library is a knowledge resource centre in society. It serves as a repository for knowledge that future generations will use. Disseminating well-organized knowledge is the prime responsibility of the librarian. Information and communication technologies are being applied by library professionals to provide library services smoothly and effectively. Cloud computing is a pool of connected computers for applications, data, file storage, and usage. This article aims to give a general overview of cloud computing technology and how it can benefit libraries. It reveals the contributions and impacts of cloud computing in libraries. It mainly focuses on various aspects of cloud computing including cloud components, models, services, features, advantages, cloud hosting providers, and areas for applying cloud computing in libraries.
